In Universal Design – On Enabling and Empowering a Diverse Population, Camilla Ryhl offers an introduction to the paradigm shift in how we understand and perceive human beings and the diversity of abilities within architecture and urban planning. The concept introduces a new approach to core aspects of architecture: sensory experiences, social sustainability, and architectural qualities and meaning, as well as the decisive synergy between form and body, between architecture and human beings.
The book brings together ten Danish and Norwegian architects in interviews they explore how universal design has been implemented differently in the two countries, despite their similarities. The book also examines why the concept has often been (mis)understood.
